The Ethical Sourcing Executive – Sri Lanka, is part of the Global Social Impact and Sustainability (SI & S) and is responsible for understanding conditions in Twinings’ supply chain in Sri Lanka (mainly tea and possibly some herbs), in order to inform the business about supply chain performances and issues as well as to advice and support improvements as required.
Key Responsibilities

  • Engage with producers and farmers and acting as first point of contact in the region.
  • Organise and conduct needs assessments in sourcing communities in the region against the social criteria defined in the assessment tools (TCNA) by engaging with local communities and relevant stakeholders to identify their needs and priorities in a participatory manner.
  • Prepare concise assessment reports, including scoring and substantiated with evidence to provide clear information to Twinings and producers.
  • Work with Twinings Senior Social Impact Manager – Asia and producer groups to agree improvement plan and next actions and keep the internal stakeholders updated.
  • Collect evidence of progress from the sourcing sites on priority areas identified during TCNAs for internal reporting.
  • Provide advice and training, as and when required, to support producers and farmers groups in implementing the action plan and improving social and environmental performances.
  • Follow up on the progress of suppliers’ improvements against the action plan in a timely manner.
  • Support the day-to-day implementation and monitoring of projects in the region.
  • Identify needs and support the development and rollout of training/support programme for sites/producers.
  • Support global projects or advise on issues across the supply chain (for example on GBV, health and wellbeing, carbon footprint etc.).
  • Work with the Senior SI Manager to develop networks with key stakeholders inside and outside the industry and engage in constructive dialogue, to progress the SI&S agenda and drive change in our supply chain.
  • Participating, as required, in relevant industry bodies, acting as Twinings representative.
  • Keep up to date on current industry SI&S initiatives and best practices.
  • Identify all key potential social and environmental risks and ensure that their magnitude and significance are well understood by internal stakeholders.
  • Regularly update supply chain maps.
  • Working with partners and producers to track Sourced with Care KPIs in a timely, effective, and accurate manner, and help measure our impact (including financial resilience and women’s empowerment).
  • Reporting on sites ethical performances to internal stakeholders (Head of Social Impact, Senior leadership, buyers)
  • Contribute to good quality content gathering and communication activities (case studies, pictures, videos, articles, etc.)
  • Effective use of the Twinings Ethical database and other tools to track and analyse records of conditions on tea estates and agreed KPIs.
  • Provide additional support as needed for reporting activities.
  • Liaise with Ethical Sourcing Executive in other regions, to learn from each other about conducting TCNA and create a support network.
  • Support with general administrative tasks as well as team systems and processes.
  • Support employee engagement initiatives, as needed (internal presentation, newsletter articles, employees field visit, etc).

Skills, Knowledge And Expertise

  • Minimum of 2 years experience of agriculture supply chain and issues related to responsible sourcing.
  • Previous experience of conducting Community-based participatory research or needs assessments
  • Knowledge of agriculture supply chain and issues related to responsible sourcing
  • Fluent in both English and Tamil
  • Ability to travel up to 60% of the time (domestic and international), sometimes with basic facilities
  • Ability to establish and manage effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Understanding of labour rights, good agricultural practices, gender issues and ethical sourcing.
  • Enthusiastic individual, able to work autonomously as well as being a team player.
  • Ability to work independently, and to be able to organise own work schedule
