Job Description

Background/ Justification:

Search for Common Ground (Search) is implementing a 30-month project to address the challenges and opportunities for youth to play a more active role in promoting good governance and human rights in Sri Lanka. The overall goal of the project is to empower youth and youth-led organizations to collaboratively promote protection of democracy and inclusive governance. This goal is supported by the following objectives and expected results:

Objective 1: Youth and youth-led organizations have increased skills and leadership capacity to promote inclusive governance and human rights.

Objective 2: Youth and youth-led organizations have opportunities to address existing and

emerging challenges to fundamental freedoms in Sri Lanka (initiatives and joint work)

Scope of Work/Goals and Objectives:

Service provider organizations, preferably led by youth, are to be selected from the following

project districts, Galle, Kandy, Jaffna, Batticaloa, and Kurunagala districts. Organizations will be

contracted for the period Aug 2023 to December 2024

Scope: The scope of assignment is explained below in detail and the selected organizations will

receive capacity building in the selected thematic areas during the project period in order to enable

them to function efficiently and effectively.

Objectives of engagement of District Service Providers.

1. The selected organization will be the focal point for youth champions and political academy

participants in their project location

2. Organizations will support Search for Common Ground through the provision of logistics

support in the execution of project activities at the district and national levels.

3. Selected organizations will support the youth to carry out advocacy activities in the district

and support them to engage with relevant stakeholders such as local government, state

officers, NYSC, CSOs, media personnel etc.

4. Organizations will benefit from capacity building programmes to be initiated by the

YouthAct project.

Selection Criteria

▪ Organization should be a youth-led/ youth based organization.

▪ Should be located in any one of these locations Galle/Kandy/Jaffna/Batticaloa/Kurunagala.

▪ Organization should be registered at divisional/district secretariat/authorized government

institutions as CBOs/NGOs/CSOs/welfare society, etc.

▪ Community-level experience of mobilizing youth for social action, dialogue, or advocacy.

▪ Willingness to engage in capacity building programmes, progress review and reflection

meetings organized by Search and contribute towards the learning and reporting.

▪ Knowledge, experience and interest in all/any of these thematic areas – peace and

reconciliation, conflict transformation, youth development/leadership, human rights, active

citizenship, and inclusive governance would be an added advantage.

▪ Possesses experience working with key stakeholders such as youth-led organizations, local

councils, and National Youth Service Councils would be an added advantage.

Payment:

Payment will be made in line with the above payment structure, upon submission of deliverables

and relevant invoices. All payments are subject to applicable taxes imposed by the State.
