Job Description


Provide technical leadership to BHA II implementation by closely working with both internal and external stakeholders of Save the Children Sri Lanka country program. The post holder is required to coordinate with SCI Technical Advisors ( DRR, CVA etc.) and Department of Agriculture and Agrarian, Provincial Directorate, Disaster Management Committee (DMC), private sector, and peer agencies and be responsible for the success of outcomes under the climate resilient agriculture component of the project.

Key Areas of Accountability:

• Provide technical guidance in the implementation of the climate resilient agriculture component of BHA II project aiming at building adaptive capacity to climate change and other external stressors affecting agriculture.

• Responsible to assess and develop climate-smart technologies (including gender concerns) to reduce food insecurity owing to climatic variability in each project district’s agroecological zones.

• Provide technical advice on implementation approaches and activities to promote and sustain climate-resilient tools and technologies in agriculture.

• Assess current capacities and needs for capacity development of agricultural producers, and local key stakeholders in aspects of climate resilient agriculture and provide technical assistance/capacity development.

• Design/adapt appropriate technical resources to address identified capacity gaps and needs and deliver appropriate training.

• Technically supervise project activities (process and outcome), make regular field visits, report to the Line Manager, and work with M&E and DRR/Climate Change teams.

Qualifications and Skills

• A minimum qualification of Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture-preferably Horticulture. A Masters’ degree in Social Science (e.g. Sociology) will be an added advantage.

• A minimum of 7 years of practical experience in climate-sensitive agriculture programming, including at least 5 years of experience in the agriculture sector. Having I/NGO experience in a similar field will be an added advantage.

• Broad knowledge of climate change issues, understanding of climate-smart tools and technology and the means of technology transfer

• Good understanding and knowledge on gender, tackling inequality and exclusion, and project cycle management.

• Demonstrated experience in assessing capacity gaps and developing program tools, technical resources and guidance and assess capacity gaps

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and in Sinhala and/or Tamil.

• Commitment and a good understanding of the aims and principles of Save the Children International.
