Job Description

Full Time 40 hours Grade 008 Patient Self-Pay Services Schedule: 8:30 AM-5 PM Responsibilities: The Patient Financial Representative is responsible for managing patient accounts for individuals receiving care from the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC), Highland Hospital (HH), and University of Rochester Medical Facility Group (URMFG). This includes responding to inquiries from patients regarding billing issues, claim payments, contract benefits, and medical billing. The representative must adhere to HIPAA regulations, Third Party Billing rules and regulations, and the Fair Credit Debt Collection Practices Act. They must provide compassionate and professional customer service to both internal and external customers. Key Functions and Expected Performances: – Research, interpret, and respond to inquiries from customers regarding unresolved patient billing issues – Resolve customer inquiries in an accurate, efficient, and timely manner – Adhere to all Patient Service policies, procedures, and performance measures – Maintain performance and quality standards based on established call center metrics – Initiate insurance billing for accounts classified as Self-Pay in error – Identify and verify coverage under government health insurance programs – Advise customers about insurance and payment options to secure revenue for URMC, HH, and URMFG – Create budget installment payment plans for customers in need – Identify patterns impacting customer satisfaction and alert management – Participate in training to learn regulations, systems, and procedures – Safeguard member privacy according to corporate policies and procedures Expectations: – Demonstrate high standards of integrity and adhere to the values and Code of Conduct of URMC – Consistently provide excellent customer service Minimum Requirements: – High school graduate with 4 years of healthcare, billing, or collections experience OR – Bachelor’s degree with at least 1 year of related experience OR – Equivalent combination of education and experience Preferred Requirements: – Excellent communication skills, both oral and written – Ability to remain professional and focused under pressure – Strong organizational and problem-solving skills – Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks – Ability to work effectively in a team – Proficient in computer skills, instant messaging, and text messaging technology Professional Competencies: – Customer Focus – Active Listening and Empathy – Excellent Oral/Written Communication – Proactive – Detail-Oriented – Problem-Solving/Organizational Skills – Teamwork Orientation The University of Rochester is committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
